According to Greek myth Lachesis together with her two sisters decides the destiny and length of human life. Lachesis holds the thread of life, which has been spun on Clotho’s spindle, to a certain length and Atropos then cuts it off. In this painting Larsson not only portrays symbolically everyone’s fate, but also Lachesis’ own fate in having this burdensome task.
